鄭秋豫研究員從事實驗語音學研究二十餘年，近十餘年來研究課題以口語韻律為主，工作內容包括：

研究簡述：
一、語音學理論研究：「書不盡言、言不盡音」─語篇韻律的心理語言規劃及聲學表達
「書不盡言」指的是口語信號中，存有大量語音成分，無法以文字或符號轉寫；「言不盡音」指的是口語信號中聲學語音表現，存有大量的不完整與多變，無法以小單位的串接平滑來解釋。主要論述是：語篇的心理語言規劃、生理語音限制及韻律表達呈系統性對應，對應關係可透過超音段聲學語音參數的分析釐清、可依據語篇語意的連貫解釋、亦可找出規劃的基型。與其他的口語韻律研究大相逕庭之處，在於韻律單位的界定、研究方法的量化及提出驗證自行提出的「階層式多短語韻律句群」的聲學證據。近年來，她逐步解構口語語流韻律中與語段及語篇心理規劃的對應，證明字調、句調與語篇韻律如何共構語流的韻律表達，也解釋語流韻律的表象非變異而實為系統與規律。

主因是自九零年代至今，口語韻律speech prosody的研究雖不少，卻鮮有在語音單位、音系單位、與韻律單位的定義間重新詳加釐清，使用語音信號驗證時也往往將以上這些單位混用。一般研究多以音系單位intonation phrase (IP) 為最大的語音單位及韻律單位，研究重點則多強調因句法結構所引起的單句調變化，而不重導致單句調變化的其他原因，及語篇中句調間的相鄰及跨句關連。漢語的韻律研究，則在以上的研究取向下，加入漢字的字調，形成以字調為主、IP句調為輔的研究方向。她從趙元任先生用大波浪小波浪說明字調與語調關係的角度出發，指出韻律現象包括音高、節奏、音質、響度、邊界停延、邊界停頓；重新界定語篇韻律單位為音節、韻律詞、韻律短語、呼吸組、上達多短語韻律語段。各級語篇韻律單位都具有音高、節奏、音質、響度、邊界停延、邊界停頓的基型模版，因此強調語流韻律的研究，需從每一韻律單位的基本預設、相鄰平滑、上層單位覆蓋與跨單位呼應所產生的互動切入，多層級的疊加可以計算，各單位的相鄰互動與上層覆蓋也得以從信號中釐清。基於以上研究取向，她的口語韻律研究，考慮口語語篇產製的心理語言規劃與語篇上層（或高層）訊息間根本關係。當今研究語篇韻律的學者，以此角度切入的僅有極少數。從2003年起至今，她透過一系列的證據，已證明口語篇章的上層（較大範圍）訊息確實存在，並如何系統性的呈現在口語的語流韻律表現上；並進而論述：口語語流韻律結構所反映的是上層語段組織及篇章韻律訊息，而不是將短語句調直接串接而已。她在2004年及2005年以節奏、響度和停延停頓的證據，提出語流韻律的完整說法─「階層式多短語語流韻律HPG架構」Hierarchical Prosodic Phrase Grouping) 及如何對應到口語段落的韻律特徵，並提出數學模型。2006年繼續提出基頻證據，並將階層式韻律架構推至語篇。2007年進一步提出各層韻律單位的大範圍訊息，如何覆蓋於其次級單位；停頓長度並非韻律邊界的主要成分，邊界效應如何分析，相對成分如何構成邊界。2008年並驗證各級韻律單位的相鄰、跨過與上層單位覆蓋如何共構語篇的韻律語境；較大範圍的韻律單位如何亦具有音高、節奏的對比；僅由單字調相鄰平滑，為何無法表達連續語流的基頻走勢。基於以上證據，也提供了如何由聲學參數解構各級韻律訊息的研究方法。

二、結合語音學語料庫及計算語言學研究─建構國語口語韻律語料庫COSPRO及台灣L2英語的語音資料庫TWNAESOP，以計算語言學方法驗證並提取各類韻律特徵並建立數學模型
1999-2006年間，她設計語音資料庫，收集大批語料，捨棄個別語料觀察，率先開發了研究課題導向語料庫語音學的研究方法，從語料庫語言學探討超音段語音訊息。復以計算語言學方法驗證，建立口語語篇的韻律模型，進而提出「階層式多短語語流韻律HPG架構」(Hierarchical Prosodic Phrase Grouping)(Tseng et al2004; 2005) 的說法，走出傳統語音學著重質的觀察不重語料量的
計算的限制。在實驗語音學方面，專攻口語韻律中的上層結構，把語音學帶出一向只重語音細節、只觀察極小的語音單位，卻無力處理大範圍語音單位，以致研究結果多為見樹不見林的不足困境。在語料庫語言學方面，創新語音資料庫的設計、語料收集的特性、標註系統的開發、標註結果一致性的取得等工具庫的設計。在計算語言學方面，採用語料庫研究，勢必要做大規模的量化處理，因此也將實驗語音學的研究，從觀察聲波、採用套裝統計軟體的方式，提升到配合理論架構、調整量化方式的層次。COSPRO收集了九套口語韻律語流的資料庫，容量共共10.58GB，在2006年一月配合標註、工作平台一併釋出，對語音學研究提供具體的資源及建構平台知識的分享。（請參看中研院口語韻律語料庫Sinica Continuous Speech Corpra的網址http://www.aclclp.org.tw/use_mat_c.php#cospro ）。2009年起，開始研究L2英語的研究，設計並收集亞洲口音英語跨國語音資料庫─建構多人次台灣
口音英語語音資料庫TWNAESOP (TaiWaN Asian English Speech cOrpus Project)，建立一個代表亞洲口說英語多樣性的亞洲英語語音資料庫及平台。
主持人以台灣代表身份應邀參與，將負責該資料庫共同核心內容之設計，及蒐集核心語料中台灣地區英語的語料。本計畫的目標除完成上述工作外，也將同時設計並收集台灣口音英語全面性的語音資料。

三、從語音學出發的跨學科研究─語篇韻律的表達與模型
她是台灣最早從事跨學科研究的語音學者，至今已與中文資訊科技研究結合二十餘年，和台大電機系李琳山教授、清大電機系王小川教授、交大資訊工程系陳信宏教授合作，積極參與及協助國語的語音合成及語音識別的研究，對國語的語音科技研究做出長期的貢獻，並共同訓練出國內語音科技方面傑出的年輕學者。她所提出的口語語流韻律數學模型，可以語音合成為工具，衍生並操弄語流韻律的每一個聲學層面。

四、兩岸及國際學術社群的服務工作：
在國內與國際學術社群工作方面，在台灣她是中華民國計算語言學會和台灣語言學會的創始會員及終身會員。在兩岸方面，她也是唯一受邀擔任「中國中文信息學會中文語言資源建設與工作管理委員會」中國語音大聯盟Chinese LDC (Linguistic Data Consortium) 委員的台灣學者。在國際方面，她從1978年起就是美國聲學學會ASA （The Acoustical Society of America）的會員，也是國際漢語語言學會IACL （The International Association of Chinese Linguistics）的創始及終身會員。此外她是ISCA (International Association of Speech Communication)的會員，並自2006年起，擔任ISCA特別興趣小組CSLP (Chinese Spoken Language Processing)的主席一職及亞洲地區語音資料庫資源共享及評估的聯盟（Oriental COCOSDA簡稱
Ｏ-COCOSDA，即 International Committee for Co-ordination and Standardization of Speech Databases and Assessment Techniques http://www.cocosda.org）區域性召集人，協調各參與國間的溝通，並確定及參與國際會議ISCSLP（International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing）及O─COCOSDA二項國際學術研討會舉辦，提昇國際學術交流及研究水準。

五、口語韻律亮點所透露的即時口語產製規劃及信息配置
科技部研究計畫「口語韻律亮點所透露的即時口語產製規劃及信息配置」(計畫編號: MOST104-2410-H-001-070-MY2，執行期限: 2015/08-2017/10)以表口語語段關連之韻律現象為基礎，探討韻律亮點與信息結構分佈配置，釐清語言產製時表溝通意義的大範圍規劃之投射制約各級語言單位指派，造成語音體現可預估之表面變異，也因此強調語音分析需加強對信號變異的理解，而不應逕自抽離語流片段後直接測量。研究假設為：1. 語流信號中除包含音系對立及句法單位指派（specification）的訊息外，同時受上層大範圍韻律規劃之制約；2. 上層韻律規劃所表之投射以超音段訊息之二分對立區辨為優選，具系統性、可預估(predict)並可解釋韻律語境之構組；3.語流中韻律亮點組型變化可與信息結構分佈配置對應。將以語料庫語音學分析交叉比對國語母語、英語母語、二語英語多種語體的朗讀、授課與對話的即興口語語料；聲學分析則從超音段對立強度所表之區辨力度切入。將從聽感標註獲取的韻律亮點(prosodic highlight)分為四級強調(prominence)：壓縮後(underscored)、無強調(unadorned)、強調(emphasized)、特別強調(extremely emphasized)，分析它們在語段中的配置組型對應在主題轉移、話輪交替的信息權重配置的投射意義及聲學對比強度級別。預期研究結果將提供語段產製由上而下的大範圍佈局數量有限且呈系統性之證據，進而驗證韻律亮點之分布組型實為預示信息結構的最佳化投射(projection)。

近期研究則從語音對立及信號對比強度針對口語語流中的共構信息表達的角度，分別針對韻律亮點與韻律縮減進行解構，並提出解釋。定義韻律亮點為語流中所有感知上的強調成分，韻律縮減則是語流中所有感知壓縮的成分，從聽感結果作對應的聲學信號分析，進而建立模型並提出解釋。
通過「口語韻律亮點所透露的口語產製規劃及信息配置」的探討，對口語語流中大範圍語境韻律(context prosody)提出更詳盡的分析，並導出進一步的研究議題。從三大方向探討語境韻律的特徵：1. 篇章連接(discourse association)；2. 音系對立(prosodic categorical differentiation)；及3. 信息結構(information structure)。針對篇章連接，解構基頻(F0)、時長(duration)、音強(intensity)、停頓(pause)等聲學參數各級韻律訊息，導出口語語流韻律結構中反映上層（大範圍）語段組織及篇章韻律訊息之組型。針對音系對立，本研究經由相互對比體現具相對性，提出聲學對立程度的證據，並對描述單一聲學現象的研究角度提出反證。發現至少有以下三種聲學對立必須將語境納入才能獲得：1. 韻律亮點、壓縮；2. 寬、窄焦點；3. 英語詞重音，三種對立皆可化約為最佳化之二級對立。研究另一最具原創性發現，則是通過聲學特徵的區辨性釐清韻律亮點的二大功能：1. 直接突顯重點信息(key information)本身，2. 提前投射(project)即將表達之重要信息。二者雖同屬韻律亮點，卻因聲學特徵上具有區辨性之差異，不但功能不會混淆，並可經由計算歸納出對應的韻律組型；不同語體(speech genre)與上層語流韻律規畫對稱重點信息及投射的分佈也不同。以上發現，可進一步從即興口語語料中推導有別於朗讀語料的信息配置規劃與理解。
