Dr. Shu-Chuan Tseng is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica. Among her research interests are phonetic variation and tone modeling in adults’ and children’s speech (Mandarin Chinese), prosodic and syntactic phrasing in conversational discourse (Mandarin Chinese and Hakka) and speech analysis of children with normal hearing and hearing impairment. She has created and released a variety of Mandarin Chinese conversational speech corpora with detailed linguistic annotations, spoken wordlists, core vocabulary and automatic phone aligner tools that produce multi-layer phonetic and lexical linguistic information. She has recently completed a normative dataset of Chinese-speaking preschoolers that includes accuracy and acceptability judgement for words, syllables and tones, signal-aligned boundary information for phonemes, phonological transcription and error type analysis for children’s phonological development. Working with computer scientists, linguists, and speech therapists, she has been closely involved in the development of an automatic assessment system that is capable of predicting word pronunciation intelligibility in accordance with human judgement. Her publications have appeared in Language and Linguistics, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics, Journal of Phonetics, Chinese Language and Discourse, International Journal of Corpus Linguistics, Language Variation and Change and International Journal of Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing.
