Academia Sinica Linguistics Forum-4

:::
The Academia Sinica Linguistics Forum (ASLF), formerly The ILAS Annual Linguistics Forum, is initiated by the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, with the aim of promoting scholarly exchanges and deepening academic discussions.

The Academia Sinica Institute of Linguistics is happy to announce the Fourth Academia Sinica Linguistics Forum with the theme “Language Variation and Change Under Multilingualism”. This forum encompasses theoretical, experimental, and descriptive approaches to variation and change in the phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, and morphology of minority and/or heritage languages spoken in multilingual contexts.

The current government language policy is dedicated to promoting the study of Taiwan’s indigenous languages, Minnan and Hakka dialects, as well as the use of Taiwan Sign Language. The Ministry of Education has also incorporated the languages spoken by second-generation new immigrants into the curriculum for indigenous languages, thereby encouraging the preservation and transmission of languages among various ethnic groups. In light of these developments, this forum serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, it builds on the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica's ongoing research on both national and minority languages. On the other hand, the conference provides a platform for exploring impacts of language contact and the challenges this presents to various linguistic disciplines, including formal syntax, experimental phonology, dialectology, corpus linguistics, language acquisition, as well as historical linguistics. It also offers an opportunity for scholars in Taiwan to learn about sociophonetics and heritage language studies through the two keynote presentations.
