iconResearch Description

My research interest involves phenomena and theory of syntax and syntax-morphology interface. Currently my research is focused on sentence adverbs, focus-sensitive adverbs, and mood-related particles/clitics/affixes in human language. Besides Mandarin Chinese and English, I have investigated some other Chinese languages, Japanese, Korean, and some west-European languages. I plan to (1) on the basis of new empirical data, evaluate or construct theories; (2) on the basis of inadequacies (if any) of current theories, revise the theories or look for a new theory, and consequently re-interpret old data and discover new data; (3) minimalize the gap between syntactic, morphological, and phonological theories.
